Abstract
122,405. Effront, J., and Boidin, A. Jan. 17, 1918, [Convention date]. Glucose; maltose.-Starchy residues, such as those obtained in starch manufacture, brewing, or extracting oil are saccharified by treatment with diastase, especially with diastase as prepared by the process described in Specification 16108/14, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. The treatment is carried out at a temperature of from 70- 85‹ C. in a slightly alkaline medium. The liquid is then filtered off from the residue. In brewing, the diastase may be added to the malt in the mash tins. The resulting substance is a crystallizable syrup containing about 70 per cent of a dextrine which is not coloured by iodine and 30 per cent of a mixture of.sugar, chiefly glucose and maltose.
