A harvesting machine has means for vertical and longitudinal adjustment of the crop pick-up means, as shown the pick-up reel of a combine harvester, the adjustment in both directions being by a common drive means, e.g. jacks 31 operated electrically, pneumatically, or hydraulically. The reel shaft 16 is journalled at each end in a bearing 17 attached to a sleeve 18 slidably mounted on an arm 19. The other ends of arms 19 are respectively attached to tubes 21 rotatably mounted on a transverse tubular shaft 22 which itself is free to rotate in support brackets attached to frame 1. Welded to each end of shaft 22 is a triangular plate 28 which has pivotally mounted at two of its apices respectively a rod 33 pivotally attached to the sleeve 18 and the piston rod 30 of the ram 31. In the lowered position the arms 19 engage rest supports 20. In energizing the rams, rotation of the plates 28 produces longitudinal movement of the reel as the sleeves 18 slide along the arms 19 until abutments on the sleeves contact adjustable stops 27 on the arms 19 when further extension of the rams results in a predominantly vertical movement of the reel as the arms 19 rotate about the transverse tube 22. After extending the rams springs 35 attached respectively between rods 33 and arms 19 are tensioned and thereby effect the return of the reel to its rest position as the rams are de-energized. Alternatively a double acting ram may be used to obviate the necessity of the springs.
