Abstract
1,220,111. Electrolytic treatment of tin plate or galvanized sheet. NIPPON KOKAN K. K. April 19, 1968, No.18737/68. Heading C7B. Tin plate or galvanized sheet is treated to improve the corrosion resistance by making the plate or sheet cathodic in an aqueous alkaline solution, e.g. of alkali metal carbonate, alkali metal borate or alkali metal phosphate; washing with water; and then cathodically treating the plate or sheet in a solution containing hexavalent chromium ions and 3-20 gm/1 of a water-soluble monobasic saturated fatty acid, e.g. acetic acid, propionic acid or butyric acid; a water-soluble dibasic fatty acid, e.g. malonic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid or adipic acid, or a water-soluble aromatic carboxylic acid containing no ethylenic unsaturation. e.g. benzoic acid or phthalic acid, or one or more salts thereof, a chromate film being deposited on the surface thereof.
