Abstract
1,219,887. Fluid flowmeters. R. B. JACOBS. Feb. 10, 1969, No.7083/69. Heading G1N. A system for measuring density, mass flow-rate and volume flow rate of a fluid comprises a pressure-sensitive piezoelectric transducer, 10, which is vibrated, in a direction transverse of the longitudinal axis of a fluid duct, 14 by a vibrator 18, the amplitude of the resultant in-phase component of the transducer output signal being proportional to fluid density whilst that of a component in phasequadrature is proportional to mass flow-rate. A divider circuit (55) Fig. 1 (not shown), produces a signal proportional to the dividend of these components which represents volumetric flow-rate. A theoretical analysis of the method is given. The transducer is pre-loaded to compensate for the effects of static pressure and a filter (30) removes parasitic components from the transducer output signal. It is stated that the transducer may be replaced by one of an inductive, capacitive, or resistive type or by a strain gauge.
