Abstract

1,219,768. Pipe coverings. RAYCHEM Ltd. 26 April, 1968 [26 April, 1967], No. 19147/67. Heading F2P. A cover for a tube, or shaft, comprises a flexible sheet 1 of heat shrinkable material, such as polyethylene which has been cross-linked by irradiation or chemical means, the opposite longitudinal margins of the sheet being provided with relatively offset lugs 2a, 2b which fit one between the other in axial alignment and have holes 3 through which a rod 4 can be inserted to secure the sheet around a pipe. The sheet 1 is heated to cause it to shrink around the pipe. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the cover is provided with a tubular portion (6) in order to cover also a branch pipe (6). The sheet may have one, or more, apertures surrounded on one, or both sides, by a rim or flange, and may have a layer of material which will melt at the recovery temperature of the sheet 1 on one, or both, surfaces.
