Abstract
1,219,658. Spark gaps. FIZIKO-TEKHNICHESKY INSTITUT AKADEMII NAUK U.S.S.R. 1 May, 1968, No. 20569/68. Heading H1D. [Also in Division H2] An arc discharger comprises parallel ring- shaped electrodes 1, 2, provided with gaps 3, 4, so connected that in operation current flows around the rings in opposite directions, the gap lengths corresponding to the diameter of the arc to prevent the arc breaking when traversing the gaps. The ends of the rings at the gaps overlap by a distance greater than the gap length, and one end of each ring is connected to a terminal 5 or 6. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the electrode rings are mounted coaxially one within the other adjacent to stabilizing screens.
