Abstract
1,219,322. Coking apparatus. MARATHON OIL CO. 17 Jan., 1968 [1 Feb., 1967], No. 2499/68. Heading C5E. [Also in Division F4] A rotary hearth apparatus for coking, calcining and devolatilizing carbonaceous material is similar to that described in Specification 1,055,857, but is provided with at least one partition 62 defining at least one inner zone 60 and at least one outer zone 61, and optionally with a conduit 64 interconnecting exhaust outlet 22 with zone 61 for recycling exhaust gases to the zone 61, exit from which is through flue 66. The partition 62 is cylindrical, as shown, and makes a gas-tight seal with the roof 21 of the apparatus, a narrow gap 68 being the only communication, except for the conduit 64, between zones 60, 61. Temperature control of the zones is achieved by regulating the air supply, at 27, or the operation of burners 29, or the degree of recycling via 64. The exhaust gases may heat air which may be delivered to the outer zone.
