Abstract

1,218,934. Reciprocating cleaning - rakes. TOLU AB. 25 March, 1968 [28 March, 1967], No. 14211/68. Heading BID. A grating 2 is cleaned by a rake 5 which delivers the detritus to a higher place 4. The rake arm is articulated at 6c, the upper arm 6b being guided (e.g. by a roller 17) in a vertical guide track 9b having a horizontal run 9c and being driven by e.g. a rack-and-pinion 16, 15. When, as shown in ghost outline, roller 17 enters horizontal run 9c, arms sections 6a, 6b are caused to pivot relative to each other; hence the rake 5 is accelerated as it approaches the detritus collector 4. As described, a scraper 28 cleans rake 5 during the final movement phase. Roller 19 then actuates a switch, reversing drive motor 13 (located as shown in Fig. 2, i.e. travelling with roller 19); hence rake 5 descends, being biased away from grating 2 by a spring 22, to the ghost outline position at the foot of Fig. 1. In another embodiment (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the rake arm is secured to a chain-reciprocated carriage (110) driven by sprockets (118), and the angle of disposition of the rake is controlled by a counterpoise roller (106f) engaging a guide (140-142) which gives way on the downstroke.
