Abstract
1,218,152. Baling press. K. W. JERNSTROM. 24 March, 1969, No. 15400/69. Heading B5F. A device for compacting trash, e.g. garbage including cans and bottles, comprises a housing 12 with a drawer 32 slidably mounted therein which, when open, receives the trash and when closed enables the trash to be compressed by a piston 46 which reciprocates in the drawer and compresses the trash between itself and the drawer front wall 36. The drawer, piston, and the driving means therefore, form a unit which is removable from the housing and includes lower rollers which engage the framework of the housing and upper rollers which engage a plate 40 which closes the compression chamber. The piston is secured to a threaded shaft 48 which passes through a plate 52 secured to the drawer framework, and the shaft is supported at its rear end by a plate 58 from which four rods 56 extend to connect with the piston. An internally threaded sleeve 66 engages the shaft, and when rotated by a reversible motor 94 via gearing 78, 80 reciprocates the piston assembly 46, 48, 56, 58. Ball bearings are located between the interengaging threads of the nut and shaft.
