Abstract
1,217,968. Halogen - containing zeolite. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 17 March, 1969 [19 March, 1968], No. 13766/69. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C5] A catalytically active crystalline aluminosilicate having fluorine incorporated into the crystalline structure is prepared by treating a crystalline calcium alumino-silicate with an acidic complexing agent and then with a halogen solution containing both chloride and fluoride or fluorine-containing ions, washing to remove unincorporated ions, drying and calcining. The acidic complexing agent is preferably ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid and the halogen solution preferably contains A1F<SP>++</SP> and CL- ions. Such a solution may be obtained by mixing equimolar proportions of aluminium chloride and ammonium fluoride and adjusting the pH with ammonium hydroxide. The alumino-silicate may be a synthetic faujasite, preferably Zeolite Y. The alumino-silicate may optionally be calcined in air at 500-900‹ C. after treatment with EDTA and before treatment with the halogen solution. A catalyst for the cracking of hydrocarbon oils with hydrogen may be formed from the alumino-silicate produced by the process of the invention by forming a composite with one or more metals of Group VIA or Group VII of the Periodic Table ("Handbook of Chemistry & Physics"). Palladium may be incorporated by impregnation with ammoniacal palladium chloride solution.
