Abstract
1,217,401. Ladle nozzles. METACON A.G. 26 Feb., 1968 [3 March, 1967; 25 Sept., 1967], No. 9198/68. Heading F4B. Apparatus for accurately locating a nozzle block 10 for a bottom pour ladle incorporating slide closure mechanism disclosed in Specification 1,198,777 comprises a slide housing 14 secured by screws 12 to the ladle base 2, and a spindle mechanism 20 detachably secured to the housing by screws 16 and incorporating a spindle 28 carrying a piston 30, a pressure plate 38 and a spacer ring member 44 on which is the nozzle block 10. A centering mandrel 46 engaging the nozzle block has a spindle 48 extending downwardly to engage a nut member 50 and formed with a square shaft 58 engaged by a handcrank 60. Spindle 28 is rotated by handcrank 52. The piston 30 is prevented from rotating by a pin 32 engaging a longitudinal groove 34 in the inner wall of a guide sleeve 24. In a modification (Fig. 2), the pressure plate and centering mandrel are actuated hydraulically and in another modification (Fig. 3) the centering mandrel and the piston move on axes offset from one another.
