[Also in Division C3] The invention includes compounds of the formulµ where Q 1-3 are each H, CH 2 OH or at least one being of Formula (I), Q 4-7 are each H, CH 2 OH or a radical of Formula (I), R 1 is H or C 1-9 alkyl, R 2 and R 3 are each H, C 1-9 alkyl, aryl, cyanoalkyl, alkaryl, aralkyl, haloaryl, haloalkaryl, haloaralkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkoxyalkyl, Y 1 and Y 2 are each H, C 1-9 alkyl, aryl, hydroxyl or halo, Z is H, C 1-9 alkyl, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, haloalkyl, haloaryl, haloalkaryl, haloaralkyl, hydroxyalkyl, cyanoalkyl, primary aminoalkyl, alkylaminoalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, aminoethyl - aminoethyl, alkoxyalkyl, a C-substituted 5- or 6-membered O or N containing heterocycle or a radical of formula and R 4 is C 1-9 alkylene or alkylene (NH alkylene) n where n= 1-12. They are prepared from the corresponding phenol, the corresponding cyano-amine and formaldehyde by heating the reactants in a liquid alkaline medium.
