Abstract

1,216,991. Opening containers; packages. STAR ALUMINIUM CO. Ltd. 15 Oct., 1968 [17 Oct., 1967], No.47205/67. Headings B8C and B8D. A container (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), e.g. dish shaped, is closed by a multilayered cover 11, at least one, but not all of the layers having two non-intersecting lines of perforations to allow opening of the container by means of a grip tag 17 which has cut-away portions to facilitate initial tearing action. The cover may comprise a top layer of cardboard bonded to aluminium foil, polythene, proofed paper or cellulose and may be fixed to the container by crimping, stitching, heat sealing or cold seal adhesive. The tag 17 may be bent inwardly over the cover and retained in position by a crimped edge. In a modification, the cover comprises a single sheet of perforated cardboard having strips of foil bonded solely underneath the perforations, the remainder of the cover underside being coated with paraffin wax.
