Abstract

1.216,989. Valves. FLIGHT REFUELLING Ltd. 10 Dec., 1968 [11 Dec., 1967], No. 56296/67. Heading F2V. A fluid flow controlling valve comprises an obturating member 11 mounted in a casing 16 for movement between a closed position in which said member obturates a bore through the casing and an open position in which said member permits fluid flow through the casing bore, the casing 16 being withdrawably mounted within a hollow sleeve member 24 which itself is rotatably mounted in a canister 28 for movement between open and closed positions of the bore, the casing being withdrawable from the sleeve 24 only when the latter is in the closed position, and wherein the canister bore has two seating rings 29 disposed therein and the outer surface of the sleeve is of part-spherical configuration. A spherical surfaced plug 11 is coupled to an operating spindle 12, the spindle being journalled in a casing 16. The sleeve portion 24 (shown in the " closed" " position in the left-hand side of Fig. 1) acts as a second valve in the line. It is turned to the " closed " position prior to removing the first valve 11 for cleaning &c. In order to remove the casing 16, notches 38 (Fig. 3, not shown) must register with members 36, i.e. the sleeve 24 is placed in the " closed " position. The first valve can be of any known type. Rotation of the casing 16 and the sleeve 24 is limited to 90 degrees by a screw (39), (Fig. 2, not shown), co-operating with a slot (41) in the cylindrical portion (27) of the sleeve. A discharge passage (42) is provided, normally closed by screw drain plug (43). The provision of wavy springs 31 enables excess pressure to be relieved if the temperature of any trapped liquid rises.
