Abstract

1,215,579. Cleaning copper or copper alloys. DIVERSEY DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Feb.27, 1968 [March 8, 1967; Jan.31, 1968], Nos.10879/67 and 4890/68. Heading C7E. Copper or Cu alloys are cleaned with a solution containing an alkali metal alkali, an oxidizing agent and an organic compound having an alpha hydroxy carbonyl grouping, a grouping convertible thereto, a beta hydroxy carbonyl grouping or an hydroxy and a carboxyl substituent in an ortho or para relationship on a ring system. The alkali may be a hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate, borate or silicate. The oxidizing agent may be hypochlorites, permanganates, perborates, hydrogen peroxide, chlorates, dichsemates, chromates or nitrates. The hydroxy carbonyl compound maybe gluconates, glucoheptonates, tartaric, mucic, mandelic, citric, tannic acids, glucose, fructose, starch, sorbitol or salicylic, parahydroxybenzoic, hydracrylic, beta hydroxy butyric, glycollic lactic or beta hydroxy propionic acids.
