Abstract

1,214,542. Capstans; ratchet mechanisms. WESER A.G. 18 March, 1968 [17 March, 1967], No. 13040/68. Heading B8B. A capstan head is provided with a ratchet wheel 2 engageable by a pawl 4 in the form of a toggle lever which in its locking position shown, is held in a straight condition by a pivoted lever 7 having a free end engageable by a releasing device 9. To release the pawl 4, the device 9 is manually pivoted via links 10, 11 and a cable 12 and the lever 7 is pivoted about 8 by the folding of the pawl 4 about its toggle joint 6, the folding being caused by rotation of the wheel 2 under load. Guides 13 and stops 14 control the movement of the pawl 4 and lever 7, and springs bias the toggle lever into the toggle straight condition. The whole of the pawl mechanism is mounted on a base-plate 3.
