Abstract

1,213,980. Feeding webs. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd. and W. C. LONDON. 13 Dec., 1968 [15 Dec., 1967], No. 57040/67. Heading B8R. A bobbin-changing device comprises a carrier 5 pivotally mounted at 11 on a movable member 14 pivoted about a spindle 23, the carrier 5 having spindles 3, 4 supporting respective bobbins 1, 2 symmetrically on either side of the pivot 11 so that by rotation of the carrier the positions of the two bobbins may be interchanged, the movement of the carrier being governed by a guide so that one bobbin moves in a shorter path than the other during the interchange. As shown, the guide is constituted by a fixed cam 22 co-operating with cam followers in the form of rollers 20, 21 carried by the spindles 4, 3. The carrier 5 is connected by way of a sprocket 6, chain 7, sprocket 8 and gearing 10 to a handwheel 9, so that when the handwheel is turned anti-clockwise the carrier 5 also turns anti-clockwise about its pivot 11; since the roller 21 is constrained by the cam 22 and cannot therefore move to the right, the member 14 is caused to rotate about its pivot 23 and this motion continues until the bobbins have interchanged, positions, the straight path taken by bobbin 1 being shorter than the arcuate path taken by bobbin 2 (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). The device may be used in a machine producing cork-tipped cigarettes, the bobbin being a full bobbin of cork strip which is moved from a loading position to an operative position when the running bobbin 2 is exhausted at the operative position.
