Abstract

1,213,785. 785. Automatic speed control. HANCOCK & CO (ENG.) Ltd. Feb.21, 1969, No.9429/69. Heading G3R. [Also in Division G1] In a method and apparatus for scanning an outline, an optical prism which is rotated by an air turbine 43 through blades 46 on which air is directed from inlets 47 under the control of a slide valve 105, has its speed held between desired limits by an induction braking coil 83 acting on a sleeve 84, the braking current being determined by a circuit using pulses generated by one of a number of further photo-cells 97 in response to the passage of a bore 99 conveying light from the source 35 controlling the length of the "off" period between the switching for a fixed period of a monostable multi-vibrator to its "on" condition. The braking current is thus applied for a greater or shorter time according to whether the turbine is running fast or slow.
