Abstract

1,213,628. A tippler for barges. STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd. 21 Dec., 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 57228/66. Heading B8E. A tippler for tippling a barge 64 and discharging it on to endless conveyer 50 and thence on to endless discharge conveyer 62, is formed of two part-circular floats 10 joined by rails 12, 14, 16 and driven from motors 44 and the gearing shown via curved racks 42 formed on tanks 10. The tippler turns about shafts 18 carried by beams 22, 24 mounted pivotally on fixture 30. Operation.-The barge 64 is floated on to rails 12 and the tippler then is swung anticlockwise so that the barge is pressed upwards by the rails 12 whilst leaning against the rails 14 and 16 and discharges the material on to the endless conveyer 50. The discharge is assisted by the fact that as the tippler rotates anticlockwise the proportion of the two tanks 10 which is positioned beneath the level of the water shows increases, so that the downward movement of the beams 22, 24 under weight is minimized.
