Abstract

1,213,360. Rotary compressors. R .G. ALCOLEA. Dec.5, 1968 [Dec. 5, 1967], No.57869/68. Heading F1F. ' A rotary multi-stage sliding vane compressor comprises an outer casing 3, Fig.3, having an elliptical bore, an inner body 4 having an elliptical peripheral surface fixed to and concentric with the outer casing, a double-walled cylindrical rotor 5 whose outer surface engages the ends of the minor axis of the outer casing bore to provide two equal volume outer chambers 15, 16, whose inner surface engages the ends of the major axis of the inner body peripheral surface to provide two equal volume inner chambers 21, 22 and a plurality of equal length blades 10 freely slidable in radial slots in the rotor and in end abutment with the bore and peripheral surface. Air is admitted to the outer chambers 15, 16 through inlet ports 17, 19 respectively and after compression is discharged through outlet ports 18, 20 into a receiver (6), Fig.4 (not shown) where it is cooled or alternatively into an axial bore in the inner body. The air is then admitted to the inner chambers 21, 22 through inlet ports 23, 25 respectively and after further compression is discharged to a second receiver (11). Pressurized cooling oil circulates across the contact surfaces of the rotor, fills chambers between the walls of the rotor and at the same time lubricate the blades. The blades are hollow and formed with longitudinal and transverse ribs and with the aid of centrifugal force a liquid coolant circulates through the blades. The ends of the blades may be sealed with respect to the bore and peripheral surface by means of elastic material or articulated tilling parts. The pressures in the two receivers may be regulated by spring-loaded valves. The compressors may be used as superchargers.
