Abstract

1,213,284. Selective printing. OLYMPIA WERKE A.G. 30 Nov., 1967 [24 Feb., 1967], No. 54664/67. Heading B6F. A selective printer associated with a dataprocessing machine is provided with a laterally open, stationary housing 1, Fig. 1, having end covers 1, 2 in which are journalled stub shafts 17 whose hub portions 16 support eccentrically a continuously cycling shaft 3 attached to the hub portions 16 by pins 15 and supporting a plurality of type carriers whose externally toothed gears 7 are in meshing engagement with a respective one of internally toothed gears 5 which are journalled concentrically relative to the axis of rotation C-C of the stub shafts 17 by means of eccentric hub members 4 journalled on the shaft 3. The gears 5 are coupled to the gears 7 by respective friction clutches 6. The selection of characters 12 on the type carriers is effected in response to a respective data signal to control means (not shown) which cause a pawl 9, Fig. 2, to arrest an associated gear 5 which is stationary relative to the gear 7 which is thereby caused to roll along the teeth of the gear 5 and execute a hypocycloidal movement to effect a hypocycloidal impression of a selected character on the recording medium 23 supported by a platen 11. Restoration of the type carrier is effected by displacement of a pawl 10 into co-operation with the gear 5 following disengagements of pawl 9. Machines with dual sets of types.-The type carriers are provided with two sets of identical characters which are disposed diametrally opposite and used alternately for character selection. Type carrier construction.-Each type carrier comprises a hub formed by a rebated gear 7, Fig. 1, and annular plate 13 supporting at its outer periphery a peripheral rim portion 14 on which are located two diametrally opposite sets of characters 12.
