Abstract

1,213,090. Pentachlorophenol. MONSANTO CO. 4 Nov., 1969 [5 Nov., 1968], No. 54034/69. Heading C2C. Pentachlorophenol is obtained by reacting Cl 2 with a phenolic compound or mixture of phenolic compounds selected from phenol and chlorinated phenols having from 1 to 4 Cl atoms per mol., in the presence of a catalyst comprising Al and Te in elementary or compound form, until the reaction mass assays in excess of 90% by wt. pentachlorophenol. Examples are given.
