Abstract
1,212,830. Papermaking. T. KOBAYASHI. 13 Nov., 1967, No. 51584/67. Heading D2A. Apparatus for making paper comprises a perforated cylinder (1) with means for discharging water from its interior, an endless foraminous screen (13) passing about the cylinder in a closed path that includes a horizontal section ending at the top of the cylinder, means (15) for dispensing paper stock on to the horizontal section, an endless felt (21) passing round the cylinder to sandwich a layer of stock between itself and the outer surface of the screen, and a couch roll (20) arranged to squeeze this sandwich between itself and the cylinder. As shown, the other end of the horizontal section is supported by a breast roll 12, and between it and the cylinder 1 are a formation table 16, foils 17 and a suction box 18; the felt 21 passes round the guide roll 19, and cylinder 1, leaving the latter at the couch 20. A wedge-shaped suction member (Fig. 5, not shown) may be placed in the space N, to remove water. Two or more of these apparatus may be placed in series with a common felt 21 (Fig. 3, not shown) to make multiply paper.
