Abstract

[Also in Division B5] In bakery apparatus, particularly for baking biscuits, a sheet of dough, e.g. biscuit dough from which biscuit blanks are to be cut out, is gauged by passing it between upper and lower gauging rolls 1, 5 of which the roll 1 is journalled on a fixed axis by a shaft 2 and bearings 3, whilst the roll 5 is adjustable towards and away. from the roll 1 by mounting its shaft 6 eccentrically in circular or part-circular bearing blocks 8 which are themselves rotatable through worm gearing 13, 14 by a handwheel 19. It is said that by making the lower roll the adjustable one the measurement of the gap 12 between the rolls given by a clock gauge 20 more accurately represents the working gap since this gap is not increased substantially by taking up of tolerances resulting from the dough tending to force the rolls apart, the tolerances in the lower roll mounting assembly being already taken up by the weight of the roll 5 acting in the take-up direction. The roll 5 is flanged to receive the roll 1.
