Abstract

1,212,408. Valves. MAC VALVES Inc. 26 April, 1968, No. 14417/68. Heading F2V. A four-way rotary, two position reversing valve, comprises a cylindrical body 10, two diametrically opposed working ports 24 and 28, a fluid pressure inlet port 15 and, diametrically opposed thereto, an exhaust port (20, Fig. 2, not shown), the control of flow between the various parts being achieved by a valve member 12 which is rotatable relative to a fixed seat 19. The valve member 12 has formed on its lowermost surface a circular passage 36 having radially extending therefrom two passage portions 37, 38 and a passage extension 39, the extension being at all times in communication with the exhaust port (20) whilst the two portions are arranged to successively connect with the working ports and to bring each in turn into communication with exhaust. Spaced axially from the lowermost surface is an annular chamber 34 which is defined in part by the valve member and in part by a spring washer 41, a sealing ring 42 and a ball bearing race 43, 44, 45, and is connected to the inlet port by a passage 33, flow from the chamber 34 to one of the working ports passing through one of two suitably disposed connecting passages 35. The disposition of the exhaust and supply transfer passages in the valve member ensures a net pressure force across it, which force tends to bias the valve member against its seat. Extending upwardly from and formed integrally with the valve member is a shaft 47 which carries a pin 71 and is received within the lower end of an actuator 58 having a pin receiving helical groove 70 formed in it, linear, non-rotatable movement of the actuator causing rotation of the valve member between either of its two positions. In the embodiment shown, the actuator is urged to the position shown by a spring 14 and is movable upwardly subsequent to the energization of a solenoid 57. In alternative embodiments, the actuator is formed of two interconnected parts (Fig. 8, not shown), or one extended part (Fig. 9, not shown), and is disposed within, and movable by two coaxial solenoids, or is movable in one direction by fluid pressure and in the opposite direction by a spring (Figs. 11 and 12, not shown), or alternatively is movable by a push-and-pull or a rotatable mechanical actuator (Figs. 13-16, not shown).
