Abstract

1,211,708. Valves. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. 29 Feb., 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14571/67. Heading F2V. A fluid metering and pressure regulating valve 105, comprises an inlet 102, an outlet 103, and disposed therebetween, a valve member 109, the valve member being in engagement, through its stem 111, with a piston 112 which has a restricted passage 113 extending therethrough, and being biased downwardly by the resultant force of two springs 114 and 108. The open position of the valve member is maintained as long as the pressure within a chamber 120 remains below a certain predetermined value, the valve member being moved into engagement with its seat 110 subsequent to that value being exceeded, such motion being the result of the excess pressure overcoming the net downward spring force and so moving the piston upwardly.
