Abstract

1,211,644. Nibbling. SKODA, OBOROVY PODNIK. 9 Jan., 1968 [25 Oct., 1967], No. 1228/68. Heading B3W. Nibbling device for attaching to a drilling machine comprises a cam rotor adapted to be mounted on the machine spindle and which is shaped so that it imparts axial reciprocatory movement to a housing having a guide bush accommodating a cutting tool, a rotatable work supporting table having exchangeable inserts to guide the tool and a shoe to urge the work against the supporting table. A spindle 1 which fits into the quill of a drilling machine carries a cam 2 which rotates inside a housing 4. A collar 10 in the housing has mounted in it a number of rollers 9, which are engaged by the axially projecting cam surfaces 3 of the cam rotor 2. There are the same number of rollers as there are cam surfaces. The housing is biased upwardly by compression springs 11 which abut the upper surface of the cam rotor and the under surface of a ring 21. Above the ring is a thrust bearing 19 which seats on a cover 20, retained in the housing by a circlip. The housing is fitted with a sleeve 12, which is locked to the housing by a nut 14 and carries a torque arm 13 which engages the drilling machine column, to prevent rotation of the housing. By releasing the nut 14, the housing is rotatable in the sleeve to alter the direction of cut. The cutting tool has a shank 5 which is secured in the housing by a screw 23 and which has a cutting edge 6. A pilot 8 on the cutting tool enters a guide bush 17 mounted in a table 16. The bush 17 is an insert which is exchangeable to suit a variety of tools, and the upper surface of which is slightly below the upper face of the table 16. An arm 27 is mounted on the table 16 and is angularly adjustable about the vertical axis through the table. There is a longitudinal slot in the arm in which slides a block 26 carrying a pin 25. This pin can act as a gauging stop or as a centering pin for arcuate cutting. The arm is clamped in the desired angular position by a clamp 29. A hold-down 15 is slidably mounted on the tool and is biased towards the work 36 by a spring 31. There is a slot (32) Fig. 2 (not shown), through the hold-down through which the tool is visible during cutting.
