Abstract
1,210,760. Hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension unit. AUGUST BILSTEIN K.G. 2 June, 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 27829/69. Heading F2S. [Also in Division H1] In a self-levelling suspension unit the pumping of liquid from the reservoir chamber 9 into the working cylinder 2 whenever the piston 7 falls below the position shown is effected by a pump 16, 17 driven by an electric motor 21. Both the pump and the motor are mounted in or on the housing containing the working cylinder. The power supply leads to the motor are interrupted by a switch (e.g. contacts 31 and 32) sensitive to the position of the piston. When the piston rises above the level shown, a regulating valve (27-29 Fig. 3, not shown), which may be controlled by the same switch (e.g. contacts 30 and 31) opens to allow liquid to flow from the working cylinder back to the reservoir chamber. Regulation of piston level may be delayed by time-lag relays. In the right-hand side of Fig. 1, the level-control switch consists of three contacts 30-32 incorporated in a folding bellows 34. In the left-hand side of Fig. 1, the switch consists of a microswitch 35 mounted between two adjacent coils of a flat spring 36. Figs. 2, 5 and 6 (not shown, but see Division H1) depict alternative forms of level control switch. Fig. 7 (not shown) depicts an alternative form of suspension unit. If the piston 7 is displaced from the desired level position, the force of either a compression spring (65) or a tension spring (66) acts on a damping control piston (63) which eventually displaces the switching plunger (35<SP>1</SP>) thereby energizing the pump or the regulating valve as appropriate.
