Abstract
121,059. Igranic Electric Co., (Cutler- Hammer Manufacturing Co.). March 26, 1918. Automatic circuit-breakers have two contacts, the upper one of which is carried by an arm 2 and normally is manually operated by a handle 11 to open and close the circuit, the lower one 3 resiliently and preferably insulatedly carried by an arm 1 which tends by gravity or spring action to move to open the circuit, but is restrained from doing so by a spring-controlled catch 5 engaging a pin 23 on the pivoted arm. When an overload occurs, the catch 5 is released by a solenoid 6 operated by an overload tripping coil, and the arm 1 moves to open position. To reset the circuit-breaker, the arm 2 is first raised to open position, and the arm 1 is at the same time moved to closed position by means of a link 12 with a slotted end which acts on a pin 15 towards the end of the motion of arm 11. The arm 1 is then again held by the catch 5, but only if the overload has ceased. The circuit is completed by returning the arm 11 to closed position. The arm 11 is so formed that its weight holds the contact 4 by gravity in either of its extreme positions. The whole arrangement is mounted on a panel 8, and stops 18, 21 limit the movements of the arms 1, 2.
