Bituminous 'binding material for coal and like briquettes is stored in a container 1 which widens downwardly and is provided with a heated grating 4 whereby the material may be melted and drawn off as required through a pipe 7 and pump 8. The grating comprises a series of tubes supplied with superheated steam. Stones and solid residue fall into and may be removed from a recess 6 in a support basin 5.
