Abstract

1,210,233. Fuel injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. March 11, 1968 [March 28, 1967], No.14059/67. Heading F1A. A piston 23 of a fuel injection pump is hydraulically actuated and towards the end of its discharge stroke, closes the discharge passage 26 to create a hydraulic lock. Discharge ceases when a groove 24 in the piston connects the discharge passage 26 via passage 27a to a spill passage 29 which is gradually closed by the piston 23 as it moves to the right until it is arrested by the hydraulic lock; at the same time a relief passage 31 for the actuating liquid is opened by the piston 23 and actuating liquid is returned to source through a pressurizing valve 55. The piston 23 is disposed in a bore in a rotating distributer 11 and during discharge the passage 26 communicates in turn with discharge ports 27 each of which has a suck-back valve 56. The piston 23 is returned by feed pressure applied to each end through the throttle 53, the distance it moves to the left governing the quantity discharged on the subsequent stroke.
