Abstract

1,209,978. Securing window units in vehicle body &c apertures. HALLAM SLEIGH & CHESTON Ltd. 5 May, 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 24819/68. Heading E1J. A window unit comprises a closed frame 1 with sliding or other panels 8, 9 is mounted in the surround 4 e.g. in a vehicle body or door, provided with inwardly directed flange 5 against which the frame 1 takes support and is secured thereto by means of fasteners 20 which are inserted through openings 19 in the aperture surround so that the hook end 21 of the fastener engages over an inwardly presented edge 22 of the frame 1 to retain the frame against the flange 5, the fasteners each having a bow resilient portion 24 bent out from the body of the fastener which resiliently yields to permit insertion of the body of the fastener into the slot 6 between the flanges 3 and 5 of the surround, the outer portion 24a guiding the fasteners during the initial stages of insertion into the slot 6 by cooperation with the edge of flange 3 and the crown portion 24b resiliently engaging the flange 3 to cause the fastener to be retained against withdrawal. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6 not shown) the bow 24 is replaced by inwardly directed tongues which spring behind shoulders on the flanges 3 and 5.
