Abstract

1,209,013. Disproportionation; isomerization. MOBIL OIL CORP. 24 Jan., 1969 [18 April, 1968; 2 July, 1968], No. 4099/69. Heading C5E. Aliphatic hydrocarbons are disproportionated, with accompanying isomerization, by contact under disproportionation conditions with a crystalline zeolite catalyst. Preferred zeolites are a hydrogen mordenite, a zeolite X containing rare earth metal and hydrogen cations, and a chelated zeolite Y containing rare earth metal cations, which are free of hydrogenation activity. Disproportionation conditions include a H 2 : hydrocarbon mole ratio of less than 0.5, 350-900‹ F., 0-3000 p.s.i.g. and L.H.S.V. 0À01-5. The feedstock may be a C 2 -C 12 paraffin in particular a butane, pentane or hexane. A cyclic scheme is described in which butane is converted to propane and pentanes, the pentanes converted in a second zone to butanes and hexanes, and the butanes recycled to the first zone, propane and hexanes being recovered.
