Abstract

1,208,925. Infusion apparatus. DECCA Ltd. 10 March, 1969 [10 May, 1968], No. 22334/68. Heading A5R. An infusion apparatus, for delivering infusions of blood or saline solutions comprises a closed reservoir 10, an outlet tube 12 having drip delivering means for the liquid from the reservoir, an air inlet to the reservoir including an air inlet valve 15 with means to resist the opening of the valve owing to reduced pressure within the reservoir, the air inlet valve being arranged so that in use air is maintained in the air inlet between the valve and the reservoir. The drip delivering means may comprise a drip chamber 13 and a flexible tube 26 having an adjustable clamp 27 thereon; a photo electric device 28 to detect the passage of each drip 1 and 2 and a servo-mechanism 29 which upon receiving a signal from the device 28 compares the actual drip-rate with the desired drip rate and controls a motor 30 operating the adjustable clamp 27. The air inlet valve may be a ball valve and the means resisting the opening of the valve owing to reduced pressure within the reservoir may be a spring or a toroidal, radially polarised, permanent magnet 23 which attracts the ball 21 of martensitic steel, hence closing the valve.
