Abstract
1,208,447. Impregnating electrical windings. G. E. WILDING. 25 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14686/67. Heading D1P. A plurality of coil windings are successively trickle-impregnated with polyester resin by step-by-step circular passage on a rotary carrier past a resin-impregnation station, the windings being heated by a variable heating current at index positions before and after impregnation and rotated comparatively slowly before and after impregnation and comparatively quickly during impregnation. The rotary carrier comprises a pair of annular discs 8 and 9 which are connected by spacers and have bearing spindles for rotation around the periphery of a stationary drum 5 in addition to armature-carrying spindles. Resin is fed to the winding leads of a series of armatures at the first of two feed positions via a pump 48 and to opposite ends of the armatures at both feed positions via a pump 49. The pumping time may be varied (Fig. 10). Electric heating is effected by a plurality of current supply brush assemblies (Figs. 3 and 7, not shown) at index positions A1 to F3. Rotation of the armature-carrying spindles is effected by a system of sprocket wheels and endless chains (Fig. 5, not shown). Rotation of the rotary carrier is effected by intermittent rotation at regular intervals of a star wheel which engages each armature-carrying spindle in turn (Figs. 6 and 8, not shown). The whole apparatus is tilted forward at an angle of about 2‹.
