Abstract
1,208,145. Soldering fluxes. FRY'S METALS Ltd. July 31, 1969 [May 27, 1968; July 24, 1968], Nos.25249/68 and 35401/68. Heading C7M. A soldering flux comprises or consists of a hydrohalide (other than a hydroiodide) of a monobasic amino acid, or such hydrohalide of an ester of such acid with a C1-C10 alcohol. It may contain two or more such compounds or may be a hydrohalide of something containing more than one amino-acid e.g. fish, animal, or mineral protein concentrates. The amino acid preferably has less than 12 C atoms and suitable constituents are the hydrochlorides and hydrobromides of alpha-amino butyric acid, alpha, gamma diaminobutyric acid, leucine, isoleucine, valine, glycine, alpha-alamine, #-alamine, phenyl alanine, serine and hysine. The active agent may be used as such, as a solution in e.g. water and/or alcohol, glycerine, ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol, in solution or dispersed in e.g. rosin or polyethylene glycol, emulsified in aqueous solution in mineral oil, grease, or wax, as the flux part of solder cream, as a core in solder wire, or as a coating on solder wire, foil, tape, pre-form or powder. The flux may have added to it ¢ to 2 p.b.w. of polyethylene glycol of MW 200-1000 or a substituted NH4 halide, e.g. isopropylamine or ethylamine hydrobromide or hydrochloride. The flux may be applied to Cu, Cu alloy, or steel surfaces as a coating by applying thereto a solution thereof and evaporating the solvent using warm air. Aqueous solutions may have a wetting agent added thereto.
