1,207,673. Diisocyanate polymers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 Dec., 1967 [2 Jan., 1967; 27 Jan., 1967], Nos. 8856/67 and 4207/67. Divided out of 1,147,383. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Linear polymers of 4,4<SP>1</SP> - diisocyanatodiphenylmethane containing in the molecule a plurality of uretedione groups may be prepared by treating 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- diisocyanatodiphenylmethane with pyridine, a substituted pyridine or a phosphine as catalyst in an organic solvent inert to isocyanates at a temperature of at most 50‹ C. The catalyst is suitably a pyridine substituted in the 3- or 4-position by an alkoxy, dialkylamino, alkylarylamino or N - hetero. cyclic radical or trimethyl-, triethyl- or phenyldimethyl - phosphines. Examples describe the preparation of uretediones which are basically dimers, trimers and tetramers or mixtures thereof of the starting materials.
