Abstract

1,207,582. Composite polyamide filaments. E.I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 30 April, 1968 [27 Dec., 1967], No. 20452/68. Addition-to 1,054,019. Heading B5B. A substantially straight, orientation drawn, composite filament comprises two continuous, adherent, eccentric, fibre-forming components, one being a copolyamide consisting essentially of 78-87% polyhexamethylene adipamide, the balance being poly - # - caproamide, and the other being a homopolyamide or isomorphous copolyamide, the copolyamide component having a higher relative viscosity than the homopolyamide component, the filament being crimpable into a helical configuration by heat, and having a crimp elongation of at least 30% after exposure to steam at 118‹ C., the homopolyamide component having a lower shrinkage potential than the copolyamide component. Polyhexamethylene adipamide and poly - # - caproamide are preferred as homopolyamides. The filaments may be drawn, heat - crimped and made up as described in the parent Specification. An eccentric sheath-core arrangement is preferred.
