Abstract
1,206,282. Hand tools. T. S. COTTRELL. 7 May, 1968 [15 May, 1967], No. 22509/67. Heading B4K. A holder for a cold chisel, punch, drill &c. comprises a tool-engaging part 17 and a handle portion 11 connected by a resilient connecting member 16, 19 capable of absorbing impact shocks and being disposed transversely of the handle portion. The handle portion 11 comprises a soft rubber grip 12 surrounding a plastics tube 13 at the end 15 of which one end of a strong spring 19 and a plastics sleeve 16 are secured, the other ends of the spring and sleeve being secured to the tool-engaging part 17 which may be formed as a single-piece moulding or of two parts held together by the sleeve 16 and a spring clip (Fig. 3, not shown). A recess 23 in the part 17 accommodates a cam 24 rotatable by a lever 26 to displace a spring-urged plunger 36 and hence a gripper (39), (Fig. 2, not shown) into an aperture (41) in which a tool can be held. The aperture may contain a liner 43 in which the tool is received. A chuck-portion 18 is retained on the part 17 by a spring clip 31. The chuck 18, parts 15, 16 and 17 are relatively rotatable to adjust the attitude of the tool. Instead of the cam and plunger, the tool may merely be held in the part 17 in a hard rubber bush.
