Abstract

1,206,007. Dehumidifying device. SWISS CONFEDERATION DEFENCE FEDERAL MINISTER OF. 26 Jan., 1968 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 4259/68. Heading B1L. A dehumidifier of particular application in aircraft comprises a tube 1, detachable into sections 3-8, into which moist gas flows at 2 and which dehumidified gas leaves at 9. The linearly flowing stream passes over element 10 which suitably comprises a stainless steel mesh which may be coated, for example, with silver iodide. The shock pressure change created in the gas stream during its passage through element 10 causes its temperature to fall and droplets to nucleate. The entrained drops then pass over fixed screw element 11 of rapidly decreasing pitch which imparts a rotational component to the gas flow about the axis of flow and forces the droplets outwards to the walls of the tube where the stream passes substantially at right angles over slots 13, the droplets passing through into jacket 14 and being run off through restricted outlet 15. The rotation of the gas stream is removed by passage over fixed screw element 12, which is identical with screw 11 in configuration but is seated in the opposite sense. If preferred, element 12 may be replaced by a tangential evolute to produce a linearly flowing stream at right angles to the original axis of flow (see Fig. 4 not shown).
