Abstract
1,204,208. Laminating apparatus; seaming non-metallic sheet material. TETRA PAK A.B. 16 Dec., 1968 [22 Dec., 1967], No. 59695/68. Headings B4B, B5K and B5N. A carrier material, e.g. of paper 2 is fed from roller 1 through cutter 3 and the strips are separated on a spreader roll 5 into individual strips 4 which are covered by a thermoplastic film 9 from an extruder 16 and/or by metal foil or plastic film 7 from roll 6. The cover layer extends over the strips 4, the spaces therebetween and preferably beyond the edges of the outer strips. The composite is passed between laminating rolls 8, at least one of which may be cooled, and thence to cutter 11 which cuts the laminate in the spaces between the strips 4. The laminated strips are taken up on roll 12. A plastic cover may be applied to both sides of the separated tapes 4 and the cutter 11 should preferably be heated so that the covering layers are sealed and form a sheath enclosing the carrier layer. Overlap joints may be formed between strips of the composite material by heat sealing the extended portion 23 of the cover layer of one strip to the cover layer of the other strip.
