The invention relates to a process for preparing a complex of hexachlorophene or 2,4,5-trichlorophenol which comprises adding to a solution of the hexachlorophene or 2,4,5-trichlorophenol in a solvent in which the complex is insoluble ammonia gas, aqueous ammonia, or ammonium carbonate in an amount sufficient to form a precipitate of solid complex. Pure hexachlorophene or 2,4,5-trichlorophenol may be obtained by heating the separated solid precipitated complex to free ammonia therefrom.
