A metal container has a seal lid which comprises a metal sheet S, e.g. of aluminium, with diametrically opposed holes C, B. An underlying thin frangible metal sheet F S is bound to the metal sheet S by cement C T or a rolling process. The container is opened by, e.g., inserting a finger-nail through the openings C, B. The lid is provided with strengthening ribs N extending radially from the centre, and also ribs which extend around the holes C, B. The inner surface of the container may be protected by varnish.
