Abstract

1,203,529. Walking beam conveyer furnaces. SVENSKA METALLVERKENS UGNS A.B. 1 Aug., 1969 [2 Aug., 1968], No. 38747/69. Heading F4B. A walking beam conveyer for a continuous reheating furnace comprises fixed beams 11 alternating with moving beams 10 which taper along the whole of their length towards a discharge shoot 27 so that as billets advance in the furnace a different portion of their underside is disposed over gaps 29 between the beams. A collecting channel (24) for slag and/or scale is disposed below the gaps 29. In a modification (Fig. 4) the moving beams taper only at their discharge ends and in another modification (Fig. 5) the moving beams have parallel sides but are disposed at an angle to the feed direction of the billets and slope towards one another.
