Abstract

1,203,305. Furniture joints. A. HELD [trading as ADOLF HELD]. 29 April, 1968 [29 April, 1967], No. 20239/68. Heading A4H. [Also in Division F2] A joint is formed between work pieces of wood by injecting'or pressing rapid setting material in a liquid or paste condition into bores or grooves in the work pieces. The setting time is less than 10 seconds. The setting material may be polyamide, polycarbonate, polystyrene, polyethylene, or rubber or a plurality of components which are only united when introduced into the bores or grooves. When rubber is used the joint is hinge-like. Wires may be embedded in the bores or grooves. The grooves may have a dovetail cross-section and may intersect in the region of the joint surface. The grooves may communicate with bores penetrating both work pieces. A female screw thread for receiving a bolt may be formed by introducing a rapid setting material in liquid or paste like condition around a core in a bore in a workpiece. T-shaped bolts may be formed in bores in a work piece by introducing a rapid setting material in liquid or paste like condition into the bores, and the bolts project from the bores to engage locking members similarly formed in bores in another work piece. An apparatus for forming the joints comprises a machine having one or a plurality of adjustable injection nozzles 7 and a clamp, for holding the work pieces to be joined, comprising a stationary jaw 1 having abutment faces at an angle and a displaceable jaw 2 having abutment faces at the same angle and moved by an air or hydraulic cylinder 5. The injection nozzle 7 is supported by a vertically adjustable and swivellable arm 6.
