Abstract
1,203,276. Wrench. RAYCHEM CORP. 2 Nov., 1967 [3 Nov., 1966], No. 49793/67. Heading B3N. [Also in Divisions G1, H1 and H2] A device for effecting a screwing operation comprises a sleeve member 73 which is heat recoverable in the sense that it has been expanded under heat and pressure to a diameter greater than normal and then cooled under pressure so that on heating it will shrink to its original size and a spiral spring inlet 74 in the sleeve the insert being connected to a rod 75 with an actuator 76, so that when the sleeve 73 is caused to recover by heating the insert 74 is wound up thus rotating the rod. Suitable heat recoverable materials are given as cross-linked or non-crystalline polymers, e.g. polyurethane or metals.
