[Also in Division F4] Apparatus for supplying light to one or more fibre-optic bundles 11 comprises a solid block 1 of thermally conductive material, e.g. aluminium, a light source such as a halogen lamp 4 fitted in a cavity 3 in the block, and one or more light guides 9 fitted in respective bores 7 in the block and extending from the cavity to corresponding connections 8 for the bundles. The bundles may be combined outside the block to form a single larger light guide. Coloured or polarizing filters may be inserted between the source and the connections 8. A flexiable, thermally conductive mesh may be disposed between the lamp 4 and the wall of the cavity 3 to facilitate heat transfer.
