Abstract
1,203,001. Cell. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 6 March, 1969 [6 March, 1968], No. 10923/68. Heading H1B. In an electrochemical cell in which at least one electrode comprises a bed of conducting and/or semi-conducting particles in an electrode chamber which are fluidized by flow of liquid electrolyte, the lower portion of the electrode chamber tapers downwardly to a narrow chamber inlet through which the fluidizingliquid enters. As shown, electrode chambers 6 and 7 are formed on each side of diaphragm 5 from two rectangular parts 1 and 2. The lower portions are wedge shaped and taper towards inlets 8, 9. Liquid electrolyte is fed to the inlets from tubes 12 and 13 through feeder slots 10, 11 which extend sideways from a point close to the bottom of the tapering portion. After passing through the chambers the electrolyte leaves via outlet tubes 14 and 15. A current feeder member 18, 19 is provided in each chamber. The electrode chambers can also be semicylindrical and the tapered sections partconical.
