Abstract
120,298. Saunders, S. E. Dec. 19, 1917. Aerial machines with aerostats; aerostats; steering and balancing.-The envelope a of an air-ship is constructed of two or more wood laminae stitched together as described in Specification 105,412, [Class 145 (ii), Wood, Working], and secured upon longitudinal ribs b connected together at intervals, for example by bracing c, d, e and cross-wires f, or by radial bracing of laminated wood. A layer of silk &c. may be inserted between the laminµ. Adjustable propellers i and planes k are provided at the sides for forcing the ship down against the buoyancy of the gas or to assist the ascent. Water may be pumped between ballast tanks o for adjusting the balance. A keel p may have chambers which may be filled with water to retain the ship floating upon the water when forced down against the buoyancy of the gas. Cars and cabins.-Cabins h are provided within the envelope and are connected by a passageway m to a front cabin l. The cabins and passage are provided with double walls n to contain nitrogen or other inert substance to reduce danger of fire.
