Abstract
1,202,560. Dimethyl terephthalate. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 22 Dec., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 58512/67. Heading C2C. A process for the manufacture of dimethyl terephthalate comprises contacting a melt of a reaction mixture of terephthalic acid and methyl alcohol having a conversion of at least 70 per cent with methyl alcohol vapour in the presence of a tin-containing organic compound which is a tin salt of an organic acid, an organo-tin compound having an Sn-C bond, a tin alkoxide or a tin phenolate. Examples are furnished and apparatus for carrying out the process continuously is described referring to the drawing (not shown).
